Introducing The Pregnancy Chronicles
I am absolutely thrilled to introduce you to The Pregnancy Chronicles!
One, amazing Mama-to-Be has very kindly agreed to let us follow her along on her pregnancy journey!
She’s going to be giving us weekly updates about how it’s all going and taking us along to appointments and other bits and bobs with her too.
This will be lovely for you if you are also on your own pregnancy journey as you can follow along, or look back at weeks gone by if you are further on in the journey and reminisce. Even if you aren’t pregnant anymore I think it’s always lovely to read these kind of things, it helps remind us that there’s always someone else out there in the same boat as you!
We’ll be digging into a few pregnancy related topics as we follow along too if they are at all relevant to this wonderful Mama!
For now she’s, understandably, decided to do this anonymously so I’ve decided we will call her Anna to make things a little easier.
We are starting off with a quick update at week 9!
Let’s first look at physically what’s happening at Week 9!
So right now, baby is about the size of a grape—around 16 to 22 millimeters long!
Their tiny facial features are starting to take shape. Baby’s eyes, nose, and mouth are becoming more defined.
Their very tiny little arms and legs are growing longer, and little ridges are forming where fingers and toes will eventually appear.
Major organs like the heart, brain, and lungs are developing rapidly. By now, baby’s heart is beating strong!
But how is Anna feeling?
It’s really normal for this week to be full of mixed emotions, and mood swings thanks to all the changes in hormones!
Plus morning (or all day) sickness is pretty full on at this point still too. It’s normal to not be able to stomach most of your favourite foods and be repulsed by smells too. It does pass for the majority of people!
Feeling exhausted is also common too at this stage! Your body is working HARD and all your hormones are changing. Getting as much rest as you can can be helpful for both tiredness and morning sickness. This is your sign to take that afternoon nap of this is you right now!
Anna has also been for her first antenatal appointment this week with her community midwife which she came away from feeling really positive.
This is so important as the care you receive from your community midwife, if you opt into it, can really set the tone for your birth. Having a midwife you feel on board with and aligned with makes a HUGE difference.
So it’s important to know that at any point you can ask for a different one, or if it’s something you really want to make sure is working in your favour you can look at getting an independent midwife.
That’s week 9 in a nutshell for Anna. We are going to check back in with her really soon!
If you don’t want to miss any posts, you can add your email on to my mailing list and I’ll be sending them out on there when they go live! Or keep your eyes peeled on Instagram for them.
